New 200 bhp Norton V4 RR & V4 SS revealed, gets all-carbon fibre bodywork

It seems everyone wants to put out a product with loads and loads of carbon fibre. Remember the 1299 Superleggera from Ducati? Or the BMW HP4 RACE Prototype from the 2016 EICMA motorcycle show? Latest to join the bandwagon is British marque Norton who recently revealed its all-new Norton V4 RR and SS.

The motorcycle gets a Isle of Man TT developed chassis with a complete carbon fibre bodywork, a carbon fibre fuel tank, and an all new 1200cc engine. Fuel is stored in a underseat MotoGP-style 18-litre tank that is all carbon-fibre, with Kevlar reinforcement and chemically coated internally to meet fuel resistance standards.

The new SS variant is built around a aluminium twin-tube shotgun chassis while the RR model gets a cast frame and swingarm. The motorcycle gets a complete electronic package which includes the Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), a multi-level traction-control, launch control, anti-wheelie, quickshifter, autoblipper, ride-by-wire throttle, engine braking strategies, cruise control and a datalogging system which can be put to use on the track. All the functions can be controlled via the 7-inch HD screen.

Note: Chassis design was developed at the world’s most rigorous race track – the Isle of Man TT. The geometry, weight distribution & ergonomics were all tested and developed on the SG5 TT race bike which finished seventh at the Superbike TT and achieved a 131mph average speed lap in 2016 at the hands of Australian rider David Johnson

Power comes from a newly designed engine developed by Norton and engine specialists Ricardo. Propelling the British masterpiece is a 1200cc 72-degree V-twin engine which develops 200bhp of power (standard) and 210bhp (with race system). The motor comes mates to a six-speed transmission which, as aforementioned, gets quickshifter and autoblip function.

Suspension duties are performed by fully adjustable Öhlins NIX30 fork upfront and Öhlins’ TTXGP fully adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking power is provided by Brembo M50 calipers.
