XUV vs Jeep Compass

After the Hexa, the Mahindra XUV 500 takes a dig at the Jeep Compass

With its killer pricing, the Jeep Compass has not just been busy garnering bookings, but it has also made its competitors come up with witty captions for their promotional activities. First, it was Tata Motors who published a tech-spec comparison of the Hexa with the Jeep Compass, with the line, “Takes you anywhere. No Compass required.” Now, another SUV which flies on the Jeep Compass’ radar, the Mahindra XUV 500 has fired a shot on Twitter.

The homegrown SUV’s twitter handle carried a picture of a rally spec Super XUV with the caption, “You don’t need a Compass to win races. You need guts!” In comparison to the Hexa and the XUV 500, the Compass does fall short by a couple of seats, but its off-roading capabilities are right up there or perhaps even better than the products it competes against. However, for the novelty that it offers and that Jeep moniker, the Compass asks for a premium although it does fall short on few features like auto headlamps, auto wipers, and cruise control.

Although recently, the Jeep Compass’ test mule with a sunroof was spotted in the open, suggesting that the SUV maker is considering filling those little blanks too. The Mahindra XUV 500 is due for an upgrade which is scheduled for launch later this year. While Tata has confirmed that two new SUVs, a 5-seater and a 7-seater based on the Land Rover Discovery’s platform will be launched in FY2018-19. Apparently, both these new SUVs will be powered by FCA’s Multijet II motor, which also propels the Compass. The battle on stilts has just begun then.
