Mahindra Quanto 4×4 spotted testing again

Our good friends at MotorBash have yet again spotted a Mahindra Quanto 4×4 test mule undergoing road tests in Pune. The Quanto can be safely credited with the title of “first mass selling sub 4-meter compact UV” and now, it seems like Mahindra is readying a 4 wheel drive variant of the compact Xylo, nay, the Quanto for export markets like that of Brazil.

The car that has been spotted is the same test mule that was caught testing earlier this year. The last set of pics of this test mule showed the car wearing ‘4WD’ stickers on the wheel hubs and those pics, together with these new pics, have showed that the car would be a strict 5 seater.

It may be noted that Mahindra hinted at the possibility of launching a 4×4 variant back when the Quanto was launched and hence, it was always known that a 4wd variant would sooner or later see the light of the day. The Quanto 4×4 makes a lot of sense for export markets and the upcoming variant of the Quanto might be powered by the 2.2 litre 4-pot mHawk diesel engine that powers the Scorpio. This would mean that the 2013 Mahindra Quanto 4×4 won’t be entitled for excise duty benefits that the Government of India provides to the manufacturers of cars measuring less than 4 metres in length and having a diesel engine size of less than 1500 cubic centimetres. However, it isn’t for sure if the variant of the Quanto will be sold in India.

In case Mahindra does decide to launch the car in India, the stratospheric price tag won’t really be a reason of worry as the demand for 4 wheel drive variants of UVs is really low in India.
