Mahindra to apply some ‘Tesla’ to it’s electric vehicles

Mahindra & Mahindra will review technology patents that electric car maker from the U.S of the A, Tesla Motors has made free, for applicability to it’s products.

Earlier this month, Tesla Motors Chief Executive Elon Musk announced that,”In the spirit of the open source movement and the advancement of electric vehicle technology, Tesla is making its patents free” and added that the company will not initiate any patent lawsuits against anyone who wishes to use the technology in good faith.

Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles CEO, Chetan Maini, hinting at his company’s interest in the Tesla Patents said,”We will review the patents, however it’s too early for us to comment about the direct benefits”. he supported the idea of sharing patents and technology and believes it will change the way people think about IP and technology sharing.

Mahindra currently manufactures the ‘e2O’ and is working on development of an electric sports car. The sports car, called ‘Halo’ has a top speed of around 160 kmph, achieves 0-100 in 8 seconds and goes 200 kms on a full charge. A concept version of the ‘Halo’ was displayed at the Auto Expo. Mahindra is also reportedly working on an electric version of the ‘Verito’ sedan and the LCV ‘Maxximo’, which are likely to be ready for commercialization by 2016.
