It has emerged that Honda Cars India dealerships are betting big on the new Amaze and are readying themselves to meet huge demand from C segment car buyers. Honda has already dispatched more than 2,000 units of the Amaze sedan to its dealers across the country. We reported in detail when bookings for the new car opened last week and word is that Honda has already bagged scores of bookings for the car.
IAB Reader Lakshay spotted two Amaze sedans parked at the Honda dealership in his city. One of these was an iVTEC petrol variant in VX trim level and the other was a i-DTEC diesel variant in EX trim level.
It doesn’t take a genius to guess that the diesel variant of the Amaze would be the more popular of the two variants. The Honda Amaze diesel is powered by the new 1.5 litre iDTEC oil burner with 100PS of power and 200Nm of torque. This makes the new Honda sedan not just more powerful than some of its direct competitors (read: Dzire D) but also more powerful than cars from half a segment above (read: SX4 D). The 1.5 litres iDTEC engine has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 25.8 kmpl and this makes the Amaze the most fuel efficient car in the country. The Amaze is basically a booted version of the Brio hatchback that is already on sale in India. The Amaze sedan shares plenty of bits with the Brio hatchback and has the same styling till B pillar. After that, the car gets a totally new rear half. The Amaze has a longer wheelbase than the Brio and this translates into more space for rear passengers. First impressions are that the Amaze is more sorted out than many hatchback-derived sedans out there.
With the Amaze close to being launched in India, future seems pretty bright for the Indian subsidiary of Honda Cars.
