We are at the state of the art Hero MotoCorp R&D centre at Kukas, near Jaipur in Rajasthan, getting an up close experience of the facility. Designed to develop next-generation technological excellence, Hero MotoCorp commenced the construction of its “Hero Centre of Global Innovation and Research & Design (R&D)” in December 2013.

Today, over two years later, Hero MotoCorp has formally inaugurated its Global Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Rajasthan. The facility will be sealed very soon for most people owing to the confidential nature but before that, Hero MotoCorp invited the media to experience this new facility.

The facility was built with an investment of Rs 850 crores and is a reinforcement of Hero MotoCorp’s commitment to innovate sustainable mobility solutions. CIT comprises of global technologies in product design and development, testing and validation. CIT also boasts a 16 kilometer test track within its vicinity with 45 different surfaces to simulate real world riding conditions.

Hero MotoCorp aims to be number one in ever sense, not just numbers and CIT is an important part of that dream. CIT will be home to over 500 automotive experts, a symphony of people collected from across the globe along with Indian engineers who’ll learn along the way. CIT will be headed by Dr Markus Braunsperger, Chief Technology Officer at Hero MotoCorp.

The two-wheeler maker says that they have brought together the best teams from across the world along with an environment that promotes free thinking. The open areas in the facility are meant to let people interact and work together to bring the best ideas together. Pawan Munjal, Chairman, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Hero MotoCorp, wants the facility to be free of uniforms to let the employees think free, think big.

Speaking to the media at the event, Pawan Munjal remembered his father, Brijmohan Lall Munjal, calling him a hero while mentioning his mother, Santosh Munjal as the guiding light behind his father’s success. Pawan Munjal said that his father was not an engineer by education but an engineer at heart and brought technologies from world over which were state of the art. Munjal further added that Hero MotoCorp also aims to innovate to delight the customer and he has done his bit with this facility. Now the task is up to the team to create the superlative products for the customers and the stakeholders.

Hero MotoCorp says that the new facility is a Boulevard of Wheeled Dreams, a giant leap as compared to the three acre facility at Dharuhera. CIT is a platinum rated building by the Indian green building council with over 15000 trees and 22 ponds for rain water harvesting. Moreover, CIT uses solar power across the entire facility.

Dr Markus Braunsperger who joined Hero MotoCorp a year and a half ago is given the responsibility to realize the grand dream of the Hero team. Braunsperger said that engineers in india are very talented and skilled despite their lack of experience. He says that he has worked at various facilities and with various manufacturers, but this one here is truly unique.

The saying ‘Size does matter’ applies here and the layout and design of the facility was carried out while keeping the future requirements in mind. Hero MotoCorp says that it has brought together some of the leading technology leaders from Asia and Europe and formed a young, free thinking and fearless team.

Braunsperger also added that the new facility will significantly strengthen the company’s product portfolio for not just Indian but also the international market and will strengthen Hero MotoCorp’s portfolio with products above 200cc.
