Yamaha Motor India has introduced the 2025 FZ-S Fi Hybrid, marking India’s first hybrid motorcycle in the 150cc category. Priced at INR 1,44,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new model blends advanced technology with a refreshed design, aiming to deliver better performance and fuel efficiency.

Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid: Powertrain and Technology

At the heart of the FZ-S Fi Hybrid lies a 149cc Blue Core engine, now OBD-2B compliant. Yamaha’s Smart Motor Generator (SMG) provides battery-assisted acceleration for smoother starts and better mileage. The Stop & Start System (SSS) enhances fuel efficiency by automatically switching off the engine during idle and restarting it with a clutch action.

The motorcycle also includes a 4.2-inch full-color TFT display, a first for the FZ series. This screen integrates with the Y-Connect app, offering turn-by-turn navigation via Google Maps, call alerts, and ride diagnostics. The handlebar position is optimized for long-distance comfort, with redesigned switches for better accessibility while wearing gloves.

Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid: Design and Features

The 2025 FZ-S Fi Hybrid sports a more aggressive look with sharper lines on the tank cover and integrated front turn signals within the air intake area. Yamaha has also added an airplane-style fuel cap that remains attached during refueling for added convenience. Buyers can choose between two color options: Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Grey.

Market Position and Competitors

The FZ-S Fi Hybrid competes with popular models like the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. While the Pulsar and Apache focus on raw power and aggressive styling, Yamaha aims to differentiate itself with hybrid technology, better fuel efficiency, and smart connectivity. The addition of advanced features like the TFT display and hybrid assist gives the FZ-S an edge in tech-savvy urban commuting.

Yamaha’s Vision

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, highlighted how the FZ brand has evolved to meet customer expectations. “By introducing hybrid technology in this segment, we are elevating performance while reinforcing our commitment to innovation and a rider-focused experience,” he said.

Final Thoughts

With the launch of the 2025 FZ-S Fi Hybrid, Yamaha takes a bold step into hybrid technology for motorcycles. The combination of improved fuel efficiency, modern features, and a refreshed design strengthens its appeal in the competitive 150cc market. Whether the hybrid approach will set a new trend remains to be seen, but Yamaha is clearly betting on the future.
