The Chevrolet Cruze has been one of the most popular diesel saloon in the country. The C+ segment saloon boasts of a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel heart that beats out 166 PS and 360 Nm of torque. This engine comes married to either a 6-speed manual shifter or an automatic. The saloon also comes loaded with safety features and even the base variant comes with dual front airbags and ABS. The top-end LTZ variant even has side airbags for additional safety.
The outgoing Chevrolet Cruze is beginning to show its age.
However, Chevrolet launched the Cruze in India in 2009. Since then, there has been very little in the way of changes. The saloon got some minor design tweaks but nothing too major. Chevrolet knows this and have been working on an all new replacement for the current model. The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze has already been launched in the Chinese market. But, the Chinese car has had its appearance mellowed down a bit compared to the upcoming international model. The latter borrows some design cues from its wilder, more powerful Camaro cousin.
The Chinese model doesn’t have a very aggressive design theme. But this is just for China.
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro gets some chrome treatment on the front grille. There’s also a decent-sized air dam that adds to the sporty and aggressive look of this saloon. This air dam is also flanked by foglights. The headlight unit looks sleek and comes with projectors and daytime-running LEDs. Apart from the clues given away by the teaser image, General Motors has confirmed that the new car would be larger, yet lighter than the current model. This lower mass will also improve the saloon’s fuel economy.
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze for the global market looks sharp and youthful.
The new Cruze is built under the carmaker’s “Power of Ingenuity • Youth” design philosophy. Apart from that, the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze will also benefit from more cabin tech and better build quality, overall. The current 2.0-litre engine may be downsized to increase efficiency and reduce emissions. However, GM hasn’t commented on the new car’s engine specs and we will have to wait a while longer. In the meanwhile, let us know what you think about the Chevrolet Cruze.
Expect a better cabin with more toys and improved comfort.
