It has today emerged that the VW Group owned popular German luxury car maker Audi might come out with the all new 2014 A3 sedan next month. The new A3 sedan could be unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show that is scheduled to be held in April. It may be noted that the German luxury cars are doing very well in the Chinese car market and China is fast becoming an important country for most premium car makers. This means that there are good chances of the A3 sedan bowing in at the Shanghai.

The Audi A3 sedan is underpinned by the much publicized MQB platform and the new car is expected to borrow plenty of design cues from the A3 sedan concept that we saw at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Unlike what was being expected, Audi India has decided to refrain from launching the A3 sedan in Indian car market. Audi India believes that launching an entry level model like that of the A3 sedan might “dilute” the car brand’s image in the country. This is quite surprising, especially when Mercedes India has planned to launch its entry level CLA sedan in Indian market by the end of this year. Audi India might re-think and decided to bring the Audi A3 sedan to Indian market in near future.

The A3 sedan, which is a shoe size smaller than the A4, measures 4.4 metres in length will rival cars like Toyota Camry, Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Passat.

Engine options on the A3 sedan would be-

1.4 TFSI, 125 hp

1.8 TFSI, 160 hp

2.0 TFSI, 200 hp

1.6 TDI, 90 hp

1.6 TDI, 105 hp

2.0 TDI, 140 hp

2.0 TDI, 170 hp
