Yamaha recently introduced its stylish new scooter for the Indian market, the Fascino. This new scoot from Yamaha receives retro styling and benefits from company’s “Blue Core” technology which is claimed to offer sharp pick up and smooth operation along with good fuel economy and cleaner emissions. While we are yet to lay our hands on the Fascino for an exhaustive review, we decided to put the motorcycle against its prime competitors in a tech spec battle.
The contenders in this face-off are:
- Yamaha Fascino
- Honda Activa 3G

When it comes to appearance, the new Yamaha Fascino, with its retro styling, is likely to grab more attention than its competitors. In fact, with its fine looks, the Yamaha Fascino can easily be compared to one of the most beautiful looking scooters in the country today, the Vespa.
There isn’t a massive difference in the power output and displacement of these motorcycles. The new Yamaha Fascino, with its 113cc motor, has a slightly bigger cubic capacity but manages to deliver only 7 hp of power which is relatively lower than its competitors. The torque output, too, is marginally lower than its competitors and Fascino just manages to stay above the Jupiter.

The Mahindra Gusto and the Hero Maestro, on the other hand, showcase some potential in terms of performance with power and torque output numbers standing at 8 hp and 9Nm; and 8.2 hp and 9.1Nm respectively. The new variant of one of the highest selling scooters in the segment, the Honda Activa 3G, in terms of power has 8 hp of power and 8.83Nm of torque.

Now the seat height of the scooters in this comparison are more or less similar but the Mahindra Gusto deserves a special mention here. The Gusto is the only scooter in the segment, and also probably in the country, to receive a height adjustable seat between 735mm and 770mm. This additional feature makes it more beneficial for the shorter riders.

The Mahindra Gusto, with its Rs 49,190 price tag, is the most affordable offering in this comparison. The new Yamaha Fascino comes at a relatively higher price but the overall package, premium styling and the retro look does make it seem worth the extra bucks. But can it help Yamaha clock higher sales? Time will tell. Meanwhile, do share your views about this comparison and your choice with us through the comments section below.
