Royal Enfield Classic 650 Unveiled at EICMA 2024

Royal Enfield has introduced its latest addition to the Classic lineup, the Royal Enfield Classic 650, at the EICMA Motor Show 2024 in Milan. The Classic 650, designed as a larger version of the longstanding Classic series, features the 650cc parallel-twin engine, which has become known for its low-end acceleration and smooth throttle response. This motorcycle is Royal Enfield’s response to demand for more powerful mid-sized options while maintaining the recognizable Royal Enfield look and feel.

Key Features and Design

The Classic 650 stays true to the classic design elements of its predecessors with updates to the aesthetics and functionality. The bike’s styling includes vintage-inspired round headlamps, a sculpted fuel tank, and carefully crafted fenders. The “frame-loop” design, which links this model to earlier ones such as the Thunderbird and Super Meteor, maintains continuity with the brand’s heritage. Available colors include Teal, Vallam Red, Bruntingthorpe Blue, and Black Chrome, nodding to popular Classic 500 color schemes while adding fresh visual appeal.

The Royal Enfield Classic 650 has been designed with wider tires, a new ergonomic riding posture, and a shorter fender design for a sportier stance. Riders can expect a riding experience suitable for urban traffic and comfortable long-haul journeys, thanks to a well-positioned handlebar and wide seat. The motorcycle’s chassis, shared with the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650, is built for balance and stability across various terrains.

Engine and Performance

At the core of the Classic 650 is a 647.95cc, inline twin-cylinder engine with an output of 34.6 kW at 7,250 rpm and a peak torque of 52.3 Nm at 5,650 rpm. This engine has been tuned to support the Classic’s smooth and controlled riding experience. Riders will appreciate its 6-speed gearbox, designed for seamless shifts, enhancing both city and highway rides. The engine setup also includes Royal Enfield’s standard forced lubrication system, while the dual-channel ABS supports safe braking with a 320mm front disc and a 300mm rear disc.

Technology and Customization Options

The Classic 650 incorporates modern conveniences such as a digital LCD display with essential information like fuel level, trip meters, and gear position. Additionally, the motorcycle includes a USB Type-C charging port. For those interested in personalization, Royal Enfield offers accessory packages under the “Classic” and “Classic Tourer” themes, allowing riders to customize their bikes to suit individual preferences.
