Mercedes-Benz Launches All-New Mercedes-AMG G 63 in India

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the all-new Mercedes-AMG G 63 to the Indian market. This latest addition to the iconic G-Class lineup combines the brand’s traditional off-road capabilities with advanced luxury and technology, catering to India’s growing base of high-end automobile enthusiasts.

Power and Performance

At the heart of the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 is a handcrafted 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine, delivering 584.6 PS of power and 850 Nm of torque. The engine is further enhanced with a 48V mild hybrid system, providing an additional 20.3 PS boost, especially during lower engine speeds. This setup allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 240 km/h, making it one of the fastest off-road-capable vehicles in the market.

The new G 63 also comes equipped with AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL, which introduces active hydraulic roll stabilization and adaptive damping. This system enhances both on-road agility and off-road capabilities, ensuring the vehicle remains composed across varied terrains. The standard AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, along with the redesigned off-road cockpit, provides drivers with all necessary information for off-road driving, including real-time data on vehicle positioning, tire pressure, and differential lock status.

Design and Luxury

Externally, the G 63 retains the familiar G-Class silhouette, with AMG-specific design enhancements such as flared wheel arches, an aggressive front fascia, and a new AMG-specific bumper featuring vertical louvers. The vehicle also offers a wide range of customization options, with 31 unique upholstery configurations and 29 exterior paint choices available through Mercedes-Benz’s MANUFAKTUR program.

Inside, the cabin is designed for luxury and comfort, featuring Nappa leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim, and ambient lighting options. The SUV’s MBUX NTG7 infotainment system includes a 12.3-inch driver display and multimedia screen, wireless smartphone integration, and augmented reality navigation, providing a technologically advanced experience.

A standout feature in this model is the introduction of the Burmester® 3D Surround Sound System with 18 speakers, further enhancing the in-cabin luxury atmosphere.

Advanced Technology and Safety

In terms of technology, the all-new AMG G 63 is equipped with the latest driver assistance features, including Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and a 360-degree camera system. These features contribute to making the vehicle safer and easier to drive, both on city roads and challenging off-road trails.

The addition of the Transparent Hood function—a first for the G-Class—provides enhanced off-road visibility by projecting a live image of the terrain directly in front of the vehicle onto the multimedia screen, offering drivers a clearer view when navigating rough terrain.

Pricing and Availability

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 is priced at ₹3.60 crore (ex-showroom, all-India), making it one of the most premium luxury SUVs available in India. The first batch of the new AMG G 63, consisting of over 120 units, has already been fully booked, with deliveries set for early 2025. Mercedes-Benz India has also announced that bookings for the next batch, expected for Q3 2025, are now open.

Conclusion: Will It Succeed in India?

While the Mercedes-AMG G 63 brings an impressive blend of power, luxury, and off-road prowess, its steep price tag places it in a niche category, targeting India’s most affluent buyers. Historically, the G-Class has maintained a loyal following among luxury SUV buyers, with its iconic design and off-road credentials often attracting enthusiasts. However, the broader Indian market for ultra-luxury SUVs remains limited in scale, and sustained success for the new AMG G 63 will depend on how well it appeals to buyers seeking an SUV that combines high-performance driving with a luxurious lifestyle.

With competitors in this segment offering similarly impressive packages, the new AMG G 63’s focus on extensive customization, cutting-edge technology, and superior driving dynamics could help it carve a strong presence among India’s top-tier buyers. However, its success will ultimately depend on whether Mercedes-Benz can maintain interest in a segment known for fluctuating demand.
