The new Toyota Harrier has entered fourth generation and has shifted to a new TNGA platform, on which some of the new cars from Toyota are based too. It might be an SUV but it looks like a coupe from certain angles because of the sloping roof and raked rear windshield. It definitely looks sportier than the outgoing model. The front of the car is dominated by all LED headlamps and a large central air-dam. The grille is slanted and is closed off with just a small opening on the lower edge.

Toyota Harrier rear

The rear too, looks in line with the rest of the car and is highlighted by new slim LED tail-lamps with a light-bar that extends into the central Toyota badge on the boot-lid. Two exhaust outlets add to the sporty appeal. Toyota has also integrated a spoiler on the tailgate coupled with a second faux-spoiler-like element.

Toyota Harrier cabin

When you step inside the cabin, the first and foremost thing you will notice is the large 12.3-inch touchscreen coupled with touch-sensitive controls for the air-con system. Toyota has loaded the new Harrier with top spec features like a JBL audio system, an electrochromic panoramic sunroof, the company’s Safety Sense collision mitigation system, a digital rear-view mirror and more.

There are plenty of engine options available with the new Harrier but it does not offer a diesel engine. If we talk about the base petrol engine which is on offer, it is 2.0-litre direct-injection four-cylinder unit good for 171hp and 207Nm of torque paired with a CVT gearbox as standard. Toyota is also offering the Harrier with a hybrid powertrain which derives power from a 2.5 litre petrol engine paired with a front-mounted 88kW electric motor in 2WD form giving a total system output of 218hp. Harrier being an SUV is also offered with a 4WD which gets an additional 40kW electric motor powering the rear axle with power output being 222hp.

For India, a facelifted version of the Fortuner is expected sometime next year. It has been spied, however, the current situation will in all probability delay all plans.
