Hero MotoCorp has finally launched its much awaited 200cc roadster, the new Xtreme 200 R and with the official technical specifications out there, we can compare it with the existing crop of 200cc motorcycles in the Indian market. It’s rivals – the TVS Apache RTR200 4V, the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS and the Austrian pocket rocket, the KTM 200 Duke. While the KTM 200 Duke is a much premium motorcycle, it has set a benchmark in the entry-level performance segment of the Indian market and thus we’ve added it to the list.
Before we start with the technical specification comparison, let us give you a quick information about the new Xtreme 200 R. The motorcycle features a semi digital instrument console, LED taillamp, factory installed tank pad, 276mm front disc brake, 220 mm rear disc and optional ABS. The 200cc air-cooled engine features a balancer shaft to reduce vibrations and develops 18.4 PS of power at 8,000 rpm and 17.1 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. The 0 – 60 kph acceleration is claimed to be achieved in 4.6 seconds while the top speed is rated at a humble 114 kph.
Here’s how the motorcycle fares against its rivals:

The new Hero Xtreme 200R’s performance numbers are not segment leading and the claimed top speed stands at 114 kmph. In comparison, the TVS Apache RTR200 4V achieves a claimed top speed of 128 kmph, the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS clocks 135 kmph while the KTM 200 Duke does 136 kmph.
But the slightly compromised performance numbers would help the new Xtreme 200 R deliver relatively better fuel economy than its rivals. The World Motorcycle Test Cycle or WMTC fuel consumption figure stands at 39.9 kmpl. It’s also the second lightest motorcycle in the tech spec comparison, tipping the weighing scale about 7 kg higher than the KTM 200 Duke.
But apart from the performance numbers, the hardware specification is at par with its rivals. In fact, this one even gets a 8-way adjustable rear mono shock, optional ABS and tubeless tyres.
Pricing is the crucial factor for the new Xtreme 200 R and that would be announced at the 2018 Auto Expo. Stay tuned!
