When Hyundai launched the Elite i20 in 2014, it went on sale with the petrol and diesel engine options mated to a manual gearbox. The earlier gen i20 was available with a 1.4 liter petrol mill mated to a 4 speed automatic transmission. This engine was a direct import and jacked up the prices but had decent power (99 bhp). Now, according to a report on Zigwheels, the Elite i20 automatic will be launched in India in a couple of months.

According to the report, Hyundai won’t be going the AMT way and stick to the regular torque convertor automatic transmission. The 1.2 liter VTVT petrol engine will be the one found under the hood of the Elite i20 automatic. The 1.2 liter mill churns out 83PS and 115Nm of peak torque.
With the option of an automatic transmission, the Elite i20 won’t lose out sales numbers due to the lack of automatic transmission in it’s segment where the Ford Figo, Honda Jazz, VW Polo and the Maruti Baleno are already available with automatic transmissions.
