It’s been over 10 days since heavy rains lashed Tamil Nadu, resulting in widespread havoc and heavy flooding which has already claimed 71 lives. Evacuation of hundreds of families is underway, especially in the low lying areas along the banks of the gorged Adyar River. Several other water bodies have also breached their banks.
Chennai has borne the brunt of the rain gods as well, with disruption in public transport services, as well as severe water-logging in areas like Mylapore, Vysarpadi and Perambur. In the majorly affected areas, boats have been put to service in the inundated streets to rescue the stuck residents from their submerged homes. Traffic has also been throw into a major disarray, as road conditions have worsened.
In the midst of all the pandemonium, irked commuters were pleasantly surprised to see three traffic policemen on a busy stretch near Phoenix Mall, Velachery, fix up the rain battered road with bricks. The do-gooder cops manually carried the bricks, and filled up the potholes created by rain and water logging. Furthermore, they used an iron bar and even stepped on it to smoothen the surface. The police came in for a huge amount of praise from the public.
