A video featuring some really cool automated car parking at an Abu Dhabi airport has gone viral on the interweb. It starts off by showing a family driving their car to the new Midfield Terminal at Abu Dhabi airport. The family then parks the car in a parking bay and sets off towards the terminal. What happens next is fantasy taking over reality, at least for now.
Firstly, the car is very credulously scanned by some Hollywood-fashion lasers for hidden explosives. Once that checks out okay, a robotic platform-like thing appears and basically chauffeurs the vehicle to a free car space. This automatic parking crate of a thing, is seemingly smarter than your average airport car park driver, in that it knows where the empty spots are and doesn’t take forever to find one. It’s also courteous enough to let other cars go by without blaring the horns at them incessantly.
After some fancy maneuvering, the robotic crate gracefully lodges the car in an empty slot, only to be picked up later when the family arrives out of the terminal. However, this automatic future sci-fi scene doesn’t end there. This amazing car park also has an automated quick-wash facility, where the car is meticulously washed before being taken back to where the family had first parked it. When the family returns to their parking bay, their car is all clean and ready for collection. Wouldn’t you want something like this at an airport near you? Well, so do we! But unfortunately, there is a catch.
As you might have noticed, this whole video was a computer-generated gimmick. In reality, such a parking system doesn’t really exist. It was merely a promotional video for an American car parking system provider called Park Plus. So we are sorry to tell you that this particular scenario, is still a flight of fantasy and you are years away from handing your car to any intelligent robotic machines at your airport. Anyway, watch the video and dream on. Do let us know what you think of such a system in the comments section, below.
