Hyundai i20 crossover testing on Chennai-Bengaluru highway
The crossover hatchback segment is getting a lot of attention these days and car makers are utilising the interest to introduce new models and boost their sales. Korean car major Hyundai is in no mood to stay behind in the race and has already started testing the crossover version of its premium hatchback, the Elite i20. A heavily disguised test mule of this upcoming crossover was spotted testing on Chennai-Bengaluru highway by automotive website MotorBash.
Now although the car is heavily covered, various characters of a crossover were visible through the spy images. The test mule was equipped with roof rails, new alloy wheels and slightly higher ground clearance. We also expect to see loads of plastic claddings on the i20 crossover.
The current generation Hyundai Elite i20 hatchback
The power mill is likely to the same that is found on the Elite i20. So expect to see a 1,197cc, Dual VTVT, Kappa Petrol Engine that develops 83 PS of power and 117 Nm of torque and a 1,396cc, CRDI, Diesel engine that develops 90 PS of power and 224 Nm of torque on the i20 Crossover.
We expect Hyundai to launch this new crossover in early or mid 2015. Hyundai will likely price the i20 crossover near Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Fiat Avventura. So expect to see an ex-showroom price tag of INR 7-10 lakh.
