Registering his second victory of the season, Bonnie Thomas won the second race of the weekend in the Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2014. Starting second on the grid, he moved into first position at the first corner and dominated the race till the end. Bonnie was followed by Karminder Pal Singh and Yatin Magu in second and third positions respectively.
It was a flag-to-flag wet race, as rains hit the circuit half an hour before the start. Drivers started on wet tyres and although it stopped raining, the track did not dry out completely, making it difficult for the drivers throughout the race.
Karminder Pal Singh started in sixth and climbed his way up to the second position by lap five, to hold on to it until the end of the race. Yatin started in fifth and climbed up to number two, only to slip to third, which he retained till the end. Yatin faced strong competition from Anshul Manoj Shah, Utsav Shah and Lee Keshav Gupta as all four of them fought neck and neck till the very end of the race
Commenting on the victory, Bonnie Thomas said, “The conditions were challenging and I didn’t know how the tyres will react. I overtook Prabhanjan in C1 and then could maintain the lead. I had to push to the limits throughout the race. Volkswagen has put together a fantastic race car which is pure fun to compete in.”
Sirish Vissa, head of Volkswagen Motorsport said, “I am very happy with this weekend as there has been a lot of action on the track. Today, the start was difficult for the drivers as they did not have prior experience with such tricky conditions. However, they worked well and quickly adjusted their driving styles to the wet track. I look forward to same action packed races in the second half of the season.”
