2013 Skoda Octavia Revealed: Images, Specs and all the details

After posting at least half a dozen teaser images, Volkswagen owned Czech car maker Skoda today unveiled the 2013 Skoda Octavia aka Laura. While we already have posted many undisguised pics of the new car, what we have here are the first official pics of the latest Octy.  The 2013 Skoda Octavia is the first car from Skoda to be based on the much publicized Volkswagen MQB platform and become more spacious than the outgoing model.

DESIGN

In its newest avatar, the 2013 Skoda Octavia / Laura, the third replacement model in the family, looks more angular and sharper. The VisionD Concept has left a good impression on the face of the car.

The headlights are now really slim and sharp, and angled slightly upwards at the ends. There’s a pronounced crease flanking the headlights and running into the bumper. An interesting design element is the deliberate gap left between the bonnet and the headlight. The panel gap acts like a pair of lashes over the new Octavia’s pretty new eyes. The VisionD effect is more visible than anywhere else on the bumper of the car. The slim central air-dam, and the angular housings for the fog lamps are clearly picked from the Vision D concept.

The new Octy will get a halogen headlamp for the base variants and a Bi Xenon setup for the high end variants.

At the rear, the base models will get a clear lens setup with LED treatment reserved for high end trim levels. The top of the line variant will also get DRLs for the headlamps.

In profile, the car looks really enormous, with the glasshouse area around the rear seats having increase substantially. Seems like Skoda have paid special attention to alleviate the problems faced by the back benchers on the current-gen Octavia.

The changes in design are not pronounced at the rear as at the front. The 2013 Octavia somewhat resembles its predecessor with subtle changes. The bumper is now more angularly cut out, and the boot area looks taller and wider. The tail-lamps are typical Skoda with the ever-identifiable C-Motif making a clear appearance.

The interiors have been completely overhauled and come with better quality materials and more equipment.

The new Octavia look sexier, sleeker and sharper without giving away any of the understated sense of purpose that the model is famous for. We love it!

Specifications

Powering the car in international markets will be 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 liter TSI petrol motors. The 2.0 liter TDI oil burner will continue to do duty in India, along with a new 1.6 litre TDI for base variants. Mated to the new engines will be a new 7-speed DSG unit6 speed manual gearbox will be offered on the base variants. All the engines get brake energy regeneration and start stop technology.

What do you think of the new model? Would it be able to carry forth the tremendous legacy of its forebear? Do let us know your opinions via comments.

  1. Go Skoda!!!!! you have gone and done it again!!!! I have been in a love affair with my octavia for the past 4 years, and with the redesigned look of the new one scheduled for launch this year, I am in love all over again!!!!! Super snazzy design!!!! I am already in for it, and hope i can lay my hands on one fast enough!!!!

  2. i don't know, but for me its not cute nor sporty looking design. i have no doubt about the quality, it will be on top. if this is a production car which will be costing nearly 20 lakh in india then i think skoda have a problem..

  3. Are you sure it's not the European-spec Rapid? I was under the impression that the Vision D concept was made production ready as a Euro-spec Skoda Rapid.

Of course, we could still see the.car make it here under the Octavia nameplate.
