Indians have a strong connection when it comes to fancy number plates or fancy registration numbers. Every now and then, one can see a few fancy number plates while in traffic, for which the Regional Transport Office (RTO) charges anything starting from INR 3000 and going north, into lakhs.
Well, this time, there is a number plate for sale, the cost for which has now set in crores. Yes, you read that right. Not in India though, as the double digit plate, to be registered as F1, is being sold for an astronomical £ 1.44 crore (approximately INR 132 crore)! The aforementioned number plate (or registration plate) previously had numerous owners, and is currently in the possession of Afzal Kahn, the owner of Kahn Design, a car modification and customisation company based in the UK.
The ‘F1’ number plate has been registered against a Bugatti Veyron hypercar owned by Kahn, similar to a few other rare number plates owned by him such as ‘F1 PET’, ‘ 1 CEO’ ‘1 80’ and ‘4 HRH’. The F1 number plate is sold at a premium as it is linked to the F1 or Formula 1 races, which is arguably one of the most famous motorsports across the world. What are your views?
