VW Up! 5 door spied undisguised at Pune

The VW Up! coming to India is an eventuality. It was in January this year that the car was spotted in flesh for the first time in India. Now, a 5 door version of the Volkswagen Up! has been caught testing in Pune.

The Volkswagen Up! 5 door,  will be positioned below the Polo hatchback and will be the German biggie’s second launch in the highly competitive Indian small car market. To be pitted against the likes of the Maruti Wagon R and the Chevrolet Beat, the components of the car will be heavily localized to keep a check on the costs. On the inside, the Volkswagen Up! 5 door will borrow a fair bit from the Volkswagen Polo parts bin and as is the norm these days, will come with headrests integrated into the front seats. Safely expect class leading quality of materials and creature comforts.

It has also emerged that VW India is doing a feasibility study of an Up! entry level sedan. The car will be below 4 metre in length and will compete against the Suzuki Swift Dzire and Mahindra Verito.

The Up! hatchback will offer a small 1-liter petrol motor and Polo’s 1.2 liter TDi motor as engine options. The compact sedan too will offer the 1.2 litre diesel motor. However, the petrol engine option will be 3 cylinder 1.2 litre motor that does duty on the Polo. Watch out for this space for more info on VW Up! sedan.

  1. this IS the production version of the car. I happen to work for a Company supplying components to the OEM, and this is the final car, making its concluding ride conditions tests. 🙂
