The 27th edition of the Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally, held on July 10 in Navi Mumbai, 2016, saw TVS Racing’s Syed Asif Ali grab top spots in the competition. Riding a TVS Wego, Ali sped through the rough water logged terrain and to overtake the defending champion Shamim Khan. A total of 53 riders participated in the 27th edition of the popular rally which is sponsored by Gulf Lubricants India Limited and organized in association with Sportscraft.
The rally was open to all Indian-made scooters – two-stroke, four-stroke and gearless. The awards included trophies and over Rs. 75,000 in cash prizes. The different classes for competition consisted of: above 80cc up to 110cc – two stroke; above 110cc up to 160cc – two stroke and up to 160 cc – four stroke. There was also be a Four Stroke general class.
Defending champion and four time winner Shamim Khan from Nashik of Mahindra & Mahindra Team faced stiff competition from the likes of Manjeet Singh Basan, Muzzafar Ali, Aavtar Singh, Pinkesh Thakkar and Syed Asif Ali. Similar to its previous iterations, the rally was run along the backwoods of Navi Mumbai. The competitive sector comprises gravel-laden, dirt tracts of around 35 kms.
