Tata Working On New-Gen Nexon; Spy Shots Reveal

Recently, a fully camouflaged avatar of the Tata Nexon SUV was spotted undergoing road tests. This fully camouflaged test mule hints towards some pretty big changes to the compact SUV’s design and mechanical bits.

Let’s take a closer look at the new Tata Nexon facelift SUV.

Tata Nexon Test Mule: Design

The new Nexon will be retaining its current silhouette and platform but will receive major refreshments in terms of design. According to reports, the all-new Nexon will feature the split-headlamp setup as seen on the Harrier-Safari siblings and Punch micro-SUV.

The spy shots suggest that the new-gen Nexon’s front would be completely redone in line with Tata’s new design philosophy. The Nexon could get a new connected LED light bar directly above the grille, as seen on the Curvv concept. While the front bumper may sport a revised grille design, the rear bumper and tailgate could also feature smoother surfaces.

The SUV still has its coupe-like roofline and raked rear windshield, & no changes are expected in the platform/ wheelbase. Furthermore, looking at the camouflaged wheels, we expect the model’s alloy wheels to also get a new design.

Tata Nexon Test Mule: Interiors

Inside, the all-new Nexon could receive several tech updates to help it give a fair fight to its rivals. Upgrades would include a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system as seen on the Altroz Racer concept seen at the AutoExpo.

We also expect a new dashboard layout along with fully digital instrument cluster which was also seen on the Racer. The test car was seen equipped with a sunroof, roof rails, and a shark fin antenna.

Tata Nexon Test Mule: Engines

Tata will offer the Nexon with the 1.5-litre diesel motor which has now been made to comply with RDE norms. But the most important update for the Nexon could be in terms of its new turbo-petrol powertrain. The Nexon facelift might come equipped with Tata’s new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine which produces 123bhp and 225Nm of torque.

Compared to the current engine’s 118bhp and 170Nm of torque figures, this will make Nexon the most powerful compact SUV in its class. Tata might also replace the current Nexon’s AMT gearbox with the DCA unit from its Altroz premium hatchback.

The new Nexon will rival the likes of the Korean siblings – Venue & Sonet, the new Brezza, and the Mahindra XUV3OO.
