Popular American car manufacturer Chevrolet has pulled the wraps off the much talked about Onix hatchback at the 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show.
The latest from Chevrolet is a VW Gol five door challenger and has been introduced to the Brazilian car market at a starting price tag of 14,800 USD. The Chevrolet Onix has been developed by General Motors do Brasil and is suited to growing car markets like that of Brazil, China and India.
The Onix is a five-door, five seater hatchback that is based on the manufacturer’s Gamma II small car platform. This is the same platform that underpins the Cobalt sedan and the Sin MPV.
The Chevrolet Onix offers two gasoline engines in the Brazilian market- A 78 hp, 1.0 liter, four pot and a 1.4 liter 98 HP four cylinder engine. Both these engines can be run on ethanol and can be coupled with a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic ‘box.
The North America based manufacturer is close to launching the Sail in Indian car market and there are very slim chances of the Onix making it our shores anytime soon. However, Onix is what the Sail should have looked like. Are you listening GM India?
