Renault F1 will retain Robert Kubica till 2012

Renault has made a formal announcement stating that have further extended their driver’s contract with Robert Kubica till the 2012 Formula One season. The Polish driver had joined Renault F1 this season and earlier drove for the BMW Sauber team. He has performed well this season and bagged two podium finishes for the team in Austalia and Monaco. There were a few rumors that he would be switching over to Ferrari which later moved on to a Mercedes deal. But, with the signing of this new driver’s contract with Renault, Kubica has laid all the rumors to rest.

Commenting on his driver’s contract renewal till 2012, Kubica said that it was a straightforward decision for him to continue with a team where he feels at home. He also said that he has achieved a lot together with the team and believes that with plenty of effort, time and the right approach, they can can move even further forward. He futher revealed that their target will also be to keep working hard and pushing on every front, not just for the rest of this season but also for next year when there are more big rule changes on the way.

According to Eric Boullier, team boss of Renault F1, retaining Kubica was critical to fulfill its ambitions of returning to title contention within the next two years. He said that the team is delighted to have Robert with them for the next two seasons and would like to personally thank him for the faith shown by him in this team. Eric also commented that there were many rumors about Kubica’s future in the recent weeks which were a tribute to his good driving in this season. Elaborating on Reanult’s F1 plans, he further said that they needed a driver of Robert’s calibre:one whos is fast, totally committed and doesn’t make mistakes in order to fulfill its title ambitions. He did not comment about Vitaly Petrov or on who might be the team’s second driver in the next season.
