The Ssangyong Rexton in India has been carrying on unchanged since it’s launch in 2012. Now, the Mercedes M-Class based SUV has gone through a cosmetic makeover in the manufacturer’s home country, Korea. The refreshed Rexton loses the horizontal chrome strips on it’s grille and now gets a different looking unit which has a prominent ‘T’ design in solid chrome, flanked by vertical chrome slats. Where the earlier design looked much better, this new approach makes the 2015 Ssangyong Rexton look like it has been designed to succeed in China. It also gets a new design for the alloy wheels, LED daytime running lamps, new badging, and HID projector headlamps. On the inside, the Rexton gets a new steering wheel that loses some bulk from the center, LED cabin lamps, heated seats and a refreshed center console.

Surprisingly, the Rexton will soldier on mechanically unchanged and continues to be powered by either a 2.0-liter diesel, a 2.7-liter diesel or a 3.2-liter petrol. Transmission duties are taken care by either a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic gearbox, which can transfer power to a full time AWD or a shift-on-fly 4WD system. An alternative to the popular Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero and the Hyundai Santa Fe in our country, it will be interesting to see if Mahindra applies the same makeover to the Rexton in India.
