INR 3.75 Crores – that’s how much you need to shell out for the Range Rover LWB Autobiography Black edition in India. And that’s just for the diesel fuelled, SDV8 variant. To indulge in 5.0 litre, supercharged, V8 petrol powered frolic, be ready to cough up INR 3.83 Crores. [All prices are ex-Showroom, Mumbai, pre-Octroi].

Land Rover showcased the Range Rover Long Wheelbase (LWB) Autobiography Black at the LA Auto Show in 2013, and has been developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s ‘Engineered To Order’ (ETO) division.  Being a LWB, the car has increased rear legroom (by 186mm/7.3 inches) for second row passengers.

The grille and side vents get a unique finish, while the badges are finished in black enamel. The Autobiography Black also gets chrome detailing on the tailgate, what Land Rover calls “signature” tail-lights, and bespoke high-gloss 21-inch aluminium wheels, along with three exclusive colour combinations.

Inside, the Black spoils with bespoke seat-cover design for the leather chairs. The hide not only drapes the seats, but also the door panels; the cargo-area trim; the pillars; the rear hatch; and the head-liner. Leather for the Black is available in only three exclusive colour combinations: Ebony and Lunar, Espresso and Tan, and Dark Cherry and Ivory.

The front seats offer massaging functionality and the driver’s seat features 18-way articulation. The rear set adds reclining ability, lumbar massage, and a power recline setting. Integrated into the seat backs of both front seats are 10.2-inch infotainment screens that can display navigation and entertainment.

Between the rear seats is a centre console that has controls for seat heating, climate controls, and a chiller with room for the champagne. Apart from that, there are tables that can be electronically deployed and have leather surfaces, holsters for champagne glasses, powered door blinds, mood lighting and a USB charging point.

The diesel engine is the 4.4-liter SDV8 producing 339 hp and 740 Nm of torque, while the petrol motor is the gusty 5.0-liter supercharged V8 developing 510 hp and 625 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
