The 2016 EICMA show is merely a month away and we are expecting a long list of unveils at the motoring event, especially in the entry-level performance motorcycle segment. One of the highly anticipated models is BMW’s entry-level GS series motorcycle that will be based on the G310 R. While the motoring event is still some time away, the folks at Motorcycle News have published the clearest spy images of this upcoming entry-level GS series motorcycle and it looks tempting.

The spy images reveal a production ready motorcycle with absolutely no camouflage. Moreover, the images also reveal the GS badge that proudly sits on the fuel tank so it would be safe to assume that the motorcycle will be called the G310 GS. While the G310 GS is built around the same tubular steel frame as the R-model, the motorcycle is a silhouette of the bigger GS series with semi fairing and the sharp beak front.

The GS variant gets its own set of design upgrades over the R-model with the addition of windscreen, new fuel tank, rear panel and under body skid plate. The skid plate also gives the motorcycle a relatively better ground clearance than the R-model. What will also help the GS models get better ground clearance are the Metzeler Tourance dual-purpose tyres. The motoring portal reports that unlike the R-model’s 150/60-17 and 110/70-17 (rear and front) tyres, the Metzeler Tourance on the G310 GS are a 150/70-17 and 110/80-19 (rear and front) which will give the motorcycle a relatively taller stance. The GS model also features an upswept exhaust (check out the image below).

Apart from the frame, what’s common between the G310 GS and the G310 R model is the headlight, cast aluminium swingarm, single-piece saddle, five-spoke alloy wheel design (although with different size) and the suspension set up. The rear monoshock suspension does get extra protection against dust and mud with the plastic cover.

Both the motorcycles will share the same 313cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled DOHC fuel injected engine and the tuning is not likely to undergo any changes. So expect the G310 GS to deliver 34 bhp of power at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. With its semi-fairing and other bits, the G310 GS is expected to tip the scale further in terms of weight than the R-model.

Some of the test mules, as reported, were equipped with a centre-stand while others only had the side stand. What it essentially means is that the centre-stand may come as an optional accessory and customers may have to shell out extra bucks for the feature. Other optional accessories may include luggage (saddlebags, top box and more), LED indicators, 12v charging sockets and heated grips. We hope BMW also offers wired-spoke wheels and metal skid plate as an optional accessory which will enhance the G310 GS’s off-road prowess.

The test mules donned grey/black and red/silver paint job but we expect to see more options at the unveil. Similar to the G310 R, the G310 GS will be designed and engineered by BMW in Germany and manufactured by the two-wheeler maker’s Indian partner, TVS Motors. Local manufacturing will give the Indo-German duo cost advantage and thus we expect the G310 GS to come at a competitive price tag.

The motorcycle, as aforementioned, is expected to debut at the 2016 EICMA motorcycle show. While we wait for that, let us know your views about the motorcycle through the comments section below.
