Porsche Might Say Goodbye to Manual Transmission

porsche manual transmission

Following the footsteps of Ferrari and Lamborghini, Porsche will soon do away with the manual gearbox option on its cars. 80 percent of buyers of popular supercars like 911 and Cayman opt for the PDK dual-clutch gearbox instead of a manual transmission and this has made Porsche contemplate discontinuing manual gearbox in a few years of time. Speaking with The Sydney Morning Herald, Porsche’s R&D chief Bunno Brandlhuber stated that “There are some Porsche enthusiasts who prefer a manual and we will continue to offer this in the meantime…. But maybe one day it will become irrelevant.”

There have been rumours of even the track-focused GT3 getting a PDK for its newest edition. Porsche test driver Walter Rohrl recently said that he “doesn’t need a manual gearbox anymore. The PDK shifts perfectly and I don’t have to do anything.”

Are manual gearboxes fast getting outdated? What do you think?
