Hero MotoCorp came into being in 1984. Since then, Dr. Brijmohan Lall has been the Chairman of the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer. However, as with everything in life, times change and the world moves on. Dr. Lall himself decided to hand over the throne to Pawan Munjal, who will now act as the Chairman, Managing Director and CEO of Hero MotoCorp. Though not technically a Chairman of the company, the Dr. Lall still remains a vital part of the company as Chairman Emeritus.
Dr. Brijmohan Lall will now act as a mentor for the company he founded.
Pawan Munjal had been elected as the Vice Chairman of Hero MotoCorp in August of 2014. Munjal became the MD & CEO of the company back in 2001. Ironically, since that year, Hero MotoCorp has hung onto its “world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer” title. This is in terms of unit volumes sold by a single manufacturer over a period of one year.
Pawan Munjal is now the Chairman, Managing Director and CEO of Hero MotoCorp.
Hero MotoCorp says, “Pawan Munjal has consistently demonstrated his visionary leadership to emerge as one of India’s highly-respected business leaders. Even in a highly-competitive and volatile market, he has guided Hero MotoCorp to not just consolidate its leadership status, but also expand its global footprint across continents.” Hero currently holds 50% share in the domestic motorcycle market in India. The manufacturer recorded its highest-ever annual sales between April 2014 to March 2015 and sold 6.63 million units.
