An audacious contender boasting superb technical performance, fresh from the Bugatti automobile workshops in Molsheim, the newly launched Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport made history in June by setting a world land speed record for production sports cars. A representative from the Guinness Book of Records confirmed the result at the Ehra-Lessien track. This feat was matched by an unprecedented watchmaking achievement. Parmigiani Fleurier, the official partner of Bugatti since 2001, unveiled the new Bugatti Super Sport Watch.
Parmigiani’s new timepiece is, in fact an evolution of the Bugatti Type 370 watch. its case resembles the standard Parmigiani curved tear drop lug, and it does have a set of bending lugs in that traditional form. As the brand describes the watch, it is an outlet for them to be a little bit wild and crazy, and play with form and aesthetic. The partially carbon fiber dial of the watch has been placed perpendicular to the axis by integrating a system of double pinions with bevel gearing that allow for a 90 degree angle transfer of energy (a world premiere).
The Parmigiani calibre PF 372 movement has a full 10 days of power reserve with a power indicator on the top of the case. The movement, made of 372 parts, is revealed through six sapphire crystals. The bridges flaunt gold black, côtes de Genève and satin finishes. The straps are courtesy of Hermes Paris, while the Bugatti logo is on the dial and the Parmigiani name is on the side at 9 o’clock. The watch dial is black and orange to reminisce one of the popular color schemes for the car.
The Bugatti Super Sport Watch will come along with a hefty price tag of $259,000, in a limited production run of 30 pieces and will come draped in an 18k white gold case.
