A new chapter has started for the Nissan Tekton. After making its India debut in July, the midsize SUV has now started its export journey. Nissan sent the first batch of more than 1,300 Tekton SUVs from India on September 1. The vehicles are heading to South Africa, Bhutan and Nepal.
The move is important for Nissan because the Tekton is not only a new SUV for Indian buyers. It is also being made for markets outside India. Nissan plans to add more countries as production grows.
Where is the first Tekton export batch heading?
The first export batch has three destinations:
- South Africa
- Bhutan
- Nepal
South Africa is the biggest market among these three. Nepal and Bhutan also give Nissan a chance to build the Tekton’s presence in nearby markets.
Nissan has been using its Chennai facility as an export base for many years. The Tekton now joins the company’s international product range from the same manufacturing hub.
Strong rise in domestic sales
Nissan also saw a sharp rise in domestic wholesale numbers in August. The company sold 3,426 vehicles in India during the month, compared with 1,384 units in August 2025.
That works out to a 147 percent year-on-year increase.
The Tekton has played a part in this improvement. Nissan now has the Magnite, Gravite and Tekton, giving customers more choices than before.
At the same time, exports are still a major part of Nissan India’s business. The company shipped 5,924 vehicles overseas in August. Total wholesale volume stood at 9,350 units.

The total figure was slightly lower than the 9,541 units recorded in August 2025. Export volumes dropped from 7,769 units last year to 5,924 units this year.
Tekton shares its base with Duster
The Nissan Tekton is closely related to the latest Renault Duster. Both use the CMF-B platform and are linked to the Renault-Nissan manufacturing setup in Chennai. For India, Nissan offers two turbo-petrol engines:
- 1.0-litre, three-cylinder: 99 BHP and 166 Nm
- 1.3-litre, four-cylinder: 161 BHP and 280 Nm
The 1.0-litre engine gets a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 1.3-litre version can also be bought with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Tekton is priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.59 lakh, ex-showroom.
The next step
That gives the model a bigger job beyond the Indian showroom.
More international markets are expected to receive the Tekton as production increases. For Nissan, this could help the Chennai plant handle larger volumes and give the new SUV a wider role from India too.
The August numbers show that domestic sales have improved, but exports are still very important. With the Tekton now heading overseas, Nissan has another product that can work in both markets.
