Since the last few days, the internet was filled with speculations, scoops and pictures regarding the launch of the new 2010 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. Today, the day has come, when the car has been officially launched. India’s favorite family wagon has now become bigger, spacious and more stylish in its 2010 version. The all new Wagon R has been tag lined as ‘the blue eyed boy’. The new car is powered by a 998cc K-series engine which has the potent to deliver a whopping fuel efficiency figure of about 18.9 kmpl. The car also comes with a new improved transmission with a cable type gear shift. Owing to the brand new platform, the length of the new Wagon R is now increased to 3,595 mm which is more by 75 mm. the car also features a wheelbase of 2,400 mm which is longest in its class. The new car has grown longer and taller as well with the new dimensions as 1,495 mm and 1,700 mm, respectively.

During the launch, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The all-new WagonR carries forward the decade-long leadership and success of the WagonR brand. The new WagonR is a full-model change in terms of superior technology, interiors, looks and styling. The new, larger platform brings in comfort and space while the superior technology of K-series engine delivers more power, greater fuel efficiency and is environment friendly. We are confident that the new WagonR will further strengthen the leadership position of Maruti Suzuki in the A2 segment.”
The new car is much eco-friendly due to the K-series engine and also is BS IV compliant which will make it available in all major BS-IV cities across the country. The base model (Lx) will cost about Rs. 3.28 lakh while the Lxi and the Vxi models will cost about Rs. 3.57 lakh and Rs. 3.81 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Following are the features of the new Wagon R.
Superior K-Series Engine:
The new Wagon R is powered by a 998cc K-series engine churns out 68 horses @ 6200 rpm and torque of 90Nm @ 3500 rpm. The new engine does not offer only increased power but also mind boggling efficiency of about 18.9 kmpl which is amongst the best in its segment.
Improved Transmission:
The engine is mated with a 5-speed synchromesh transmission technology which combines a number of innovations to enhance the power output with a pleasure filled driving experience. The new transmission system comes with precise shift mechanism which ensures that gear shifting effort is minimal due to mechanical loss. The new car also features better gear ratios to improve the drive quality and at the same time to provide efficiency. The car also features a reduced clutch-pedal peak-load helps which improves the city driving experience.
Spacious and Convenient:
The car is designed to suit tall people and also features the best in class adjustable seats. The leg room has obviously improved due to the elongation of the new car. The larger doors make entry and exit much easier and hassle free. The Wagon R already had a large enough boot space which is now even more large which makes it a perfect family car.
Amongst the other storage spaces are the integrated tool box and a special area to store valuables in the boot, handy shopping tray under the front passenger seat, a soft insert on the floor console, useful alcoves on the front console and door sides, a utility hook on the IP, and a 60:40 split rear seat add to user convenience.
Stylish:
The new Wagon R has been tag lined as ‘the blue eyed boy’ owing to the blue tinge on its headlamps. The new car also features a classic chrome-engraved ‘WagonR’ badge on the rear door. The front is now more aggressive with a bigger set of head lamps. The car also features wider bumpers, slanted roof and aerodynamic exteriors. The interiors come in an attractive blue-silver theme and an integrated audio system with an Auxiliary input with a 6-band graphic equalizer.

Safety:
The new Wagon R is now more safer too. The car features a rigid cage structure technology along with increased frontal impact absorbing area. The increased distance between the steering wheel and the front bumper proves to be more safer to the passengers. The Vxi variant comes with front and rear fog lamps and is also equipped with airbags and ABS as an option. The new Wagon R key is equipped with the i-CATS, 4-door central locking and anti-theft alarm system.
Comfort:
The Wagon R was always a comfortable vehicle. But the new Wagon R is now more comfortable with an L shaped suspension frame. This fine tuned 3 point suspension is a boon for a car in the Indian road conditions. The new steering wheel can also be tilted to suit the driver’s choice. Tubeless tyres are standard on the new Wagon R. the car is a good city traffic handler with its tight turning radius of 4.6 meters.
