Live Update- 5.30pm- 5th January, 2010

Mercedes Benz formally launched it’s multi axle luxury passenger bus at the expo. The two axles at the back significantly increase passenger comfort and braking. According to Mr Schick (designation) and Mr Alba (designation) who formally launched the bike, the bus has been developed to the highest standards of safety and reliability. This bus has the chassis and drivetrain made in Brazil, with some components sourced here and the body is built by Sutlej in various configurations with attention being given to safety and passenger comfort. Fire retardant materials are used extensively and there are two LCD screens for the passengers. MB  has already been running 25 of the buses here prior to their launch, to troubleshoot them for Indian conditions, and Mr Schick was at pains to stress that MB has taken care to see that all logistical support is already in place, prior to selling the units, so as to minimize customer down time. They are also planning to train dealers and their staff. Based on volumes, MB may introduce more designs apart from the long distance and city buses, but that is subject to the number of units sold.

Generally upbeat about the improving economic scenario, MB hopes to sell 800 – 1000 units this year of these luxury buses. The ceremony ended with MB handing over symbolic keys to some of the operators who have placed an order for their vehicles, including Neeta Travels, Parveen travels and Sophie lines.

The cost of these luxury buses is pegged at approximately 85 Lakhs

Mercedes SLS AMG at Auto Expo

SLS AMG:

Yes, there will be the R8s and the Porsches to drool over. But one car that will truly stand apart is the SLS AMG – a modern age classic that is sure to make each and every member of audience go weak in their knees (unless they are mentally or physically crippled!). After the success of the SL-class in India and the rate at which supercars are gaining popularity in our country, Mercedes-Benz will surely get the SLS to our lucrative market. The car will stand proudly alongside the entire range of AMGs that Mercedes-Benz sells in India.
