Maruti Suzuki Fronx Long Term Report: A 1000-Km Affair

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has been a part of our long-term fleet for a few months. Having tested it for over 1000 km, I have a detailed report of what I feel about the car in day-to-day use.

Style and Design

In our extensive 1000-kilometer journey with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, the standout feature is undoubtedly its style and design. Departing from conventional SUV aesthetics, the Fronx presents itself as a crossover hatch with captivating coupe-like styling. In my eyes, it’s like the Baleno and the Grand Vitara got together and spawned a baby. It carries the shape and size of the Baleno but gets its handsome looks from the Grand Vitara. It boasts a massive grille and tri-LED DRLs, contributing to its muscular and contemporary look.

Performance

Our long-term Fronx is equipped with a 1.0-liter BoosterJet engine that makes 99 bhp and 147.6 Nm torque. The engine, which uses Maruti Suzuki’s mild hybrid technology, engages the driver with its rapid acceleration and enthusiasm while offering a pleasant driving experience. The Fronx ensures stability at high speeds and little body roll by handling both city commutes and highway drives with skill. Its light controls, absorbent ride, and driveability all combine to create a thrilling performance all around.

The highlight for me has been the mild hybrid tech and I loved the way the electric motor would kick in as soon as you stepped on the gas for a quick overtake. This truly is the Fronx’s superpower. The ride and handling have been my second favorite things about the Fronx. The steering gives great feedback and does not feel artificial. The suspension too is set up well to handle both the city bumps and the smooth highways.

Fuel Efficiency

Now for the important question – “kitna deti hai?”. Amid city traffic, the Fronx showcases its fuel efficiency, averaging 13-14 kmpl. Although it doesn’t directly improve fuel efficiency, the automated fuel start-stop feature uses less fuel when you are at a signal. I found this feature more annoying than useful and had it turned off almost 90% of the time. On the highways, the number rises and you will see the speedo indicating an 18-19 kmpl efficiency. So, those long trips won’t be as expensive with the Fronx.

Specs and Features

Maruti Suzuki offers the Fronx with two engine options, and our test unit, the top-spec Alpha Turbo AT. Packed with features like a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, heads-up display, automatic climate control, and cruise control, the Fronx ensures a well-equipped driving experience.

Most of these features are useful in day-to-day usage and make driving around the city a breeze. While the cabin design shares similarities with the Baleno, the Fronx stands out with a bronze dashboard layer and distinctive color elements. One niggle the Fronx has is that it does not have pressure sensors in the rear seat. The annoying seatbelt reminder will keep chiming even when there is no one seated.

Verdict

Following our comprehensive 1000-km journey with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, it’s evident that this crossover hatch offers more than just a stylish facade. Its performance, comfort, and fuel efficiency make it a compelling choice for urban dwellers. The Fronx’s unique design, coupled with an array of features, positions it as a practical and exciting option for individuals and small families alike. If one is upgrading from a small hatchback, the Fronx is highly recommended for someone looking for an easy-to-live car that offers performance and features.
