Maruti Suzuki Autocar Young Driver 2014 is back in its 6th edition

Road safety in India is like playing football with Luis Suarez, full of danger! Maruti Suzuki and Autocar’s Young Driver attempts to improve the scenario by organising a competition where young drivers can participate and achieve top spot by displaying their road safety knowledge.

This year will mark the sixth edition of the Maruti Suzuki Autocar Young Driver 2014. This competition is being held in three phases in the months of July and August 2014 in India, with the grand finale being held at a five star venue in New Delhi. This event, organised by Maruti Suzuki and Autocar India together, aims to bring to the fore importance of responsible driving amongst the youth.

The competition will include three different phases wherein tests will be administered which shall address the participant’s awareness about road safety, driving skills and traffic rules. These tests will be conducted in the facilities provided by Maruti Driving School (MDS) spread across 42 major Indian cities. Those within the ages of 18 and 30 with a valid Indian driving license are permitted to participate in the contest.

Phase 1 will include participants who have registered on www.youngdriver.in to take an online theory test in the form of a quiz. Phase 2 will be a skill test which will comprise a driving test at any of the Maruti Driving Schools spread across 42 Indian cities. In Phase 3, the finalists will be flown to Delhi for the grand finale where they will be judged on the basis of 20 parameters pertaining to safety, vehicle control, theory knowledge and its application while driving. In the final Phase, the winner will be adjudged “The Maruti Suzuki-Autocar Young Driver of the year 2014” and will take home a brand new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.

The winner of MYD becomes the face of safe driving. He / She will win a new car and be featured across media as the face of safety.”

Autocar India recently concluded “The Uncool Moments” Contest, a unique Facebook-based photo contest which allowed participants to post images/videos of reckless moments of driving on Autocar India’s Facebook page. This initiative saw encouraging response from the youth, thus driving home the point that Unsafe driving is indeed Uncool!
