Mahindra Thar Roxx Hits Indian Market at Rs 12.99 Lakh

Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced the new Thar Roxx in India, with prices starting at Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level MX1 petrol manual variant. The MX1 diesel manual variant is priced at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom). While Mahindra has announced the initial pricing, the full details of the SUV will be unveiled tomorrow, August 15, 2024.

Exterior Design

The Thar Roxx’s design bears a strong resemblance to the three-door Thar, featuring a similar front fascia with a new vertical six-slat grille, C-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and a distinctive headlamp cluster. The SUV also sports an aggressive dual-tone bumper in silver and black, complete with integrated fog lamps at the corners. The wide wheel arches, LED indicators, and redesigned tail lights—while retaining the familiar shape—add to its rugged appeal. New alloy wheels and a vertical back door handle further distinguish the 5-door version.

Interior Features

Inside, the Thar Roxx is equipped with a range of premium features, including a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated leatherette seats, reclining rear seats, automatic climate control, rear air-con vents, a Harman Kardon audio system, and a panoramic sunroof. The SUV also boasts a larger central touchscreen infotainment display compared to the three-door Thar. On the safety front, the Thar Roxx comes standard with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and three-point seatbelts for all passengers. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are expected to be available on higher variants.

Platform and Build

The Thar Roxx shares its platform with the Scorpio-N and the 5-door Thar, utilizing a significantly modified version of the 3-door Thar’s ladder-on-frame chassis. It features a solid metal roof and a body made of high-strength steel, with reinforced pillars for added durability.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the Thar Roxx is powered by a diesel engine producing 150 bhp and a petrol engine delivering 160 bhp. Both engines offer a peak torque of 330 Nm, making the petrol variant 10 bhp and 30 Nm more powerful than its three-door counterpart, while the diesel variant gains 20 bhp and 30 Nm. A manual gearbox is confirmed, with an automatic option likely to follow. The SUV will be available in both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations.

The new Thar Roxx is set to compete with the Force Gurkha 5-Door, which was launched in India earlier this year.
