Kia recently introduced the new Syros EV, one of the two models the company had teased for India. Now attention has shifted to the second model, which is expected to be the Sorento. Dealer sources suggest that select Kia dealerships have started accepting unofficial bookings for the premium SUV even before the company has made a formal announcement. Buyers can reserve the SUV by paying a token amount, with reports suggesting figures between Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 depending on the dealership.
The Sorento will become Kia India’s flagship ICE SUV. It is expected to arrive in showrooms around August end or during the festive season. Local assembly is also expected, which could help Kia keep the pricing competitive.
Expected powertrain
The India spec Sorento is likely to use a 1.6 litre turbo petrol strong hybrid engine.
Some expected details include:
- 1.6 litre turbo petrol strong hybrid engine
- Around 230 bhp to 238 bhp combined power
- Around 380 Nm of torque
- 6 speed automatic transmission
- AWD option expected
- Hybrid powertrain for better fuel efficiency
Unlike many rivals that continue with diesel engines, the Sorento could offer buyers a strong hybrid option in this segment.
Multiple seating choices could be offered
One of the biggest talking points is the seating flexibility. Dealer sources indicate that Kia may offer three seating layouts.
Seating options
---
5 seater
6 seater
7 seater
If launched with all three layouts, the Sorento could become the only SUV in its class to offer so many seating choices.
Size and design
Globally, the Sorento measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,700 mm in height. It rides on a 2,815 mm wheelbase.
The SUV gets Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille, roof rails, chrome window surrounds and dual tone 19 inch alloy wheels. Test vehicles have already been spotted on Indian roads during development.

Premium cabin with modern features
The cabin is expected to come loaded with premium equipment. The global model already offers several comfort and safety features that are likely to reach India.
Expected features include:
- Dual 12.3 inch screens
- Panoramic sunroof
- Ventilated front seats
- Powered driver seat
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Bose sound system
- Dual zone climate control
- 360 degree camera
- Level 2 ADAS
The SUV is expected to offer a premium experience for both city drives and long highway trips.

Expected price and rivals
Kia is expected to assemble the Sorento in India through the CKD route. Reports suggest an expected ex showroom price between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh, though some estimates go up to Rs 50 lakh depending on the variant.
The Sorento is expected to compete with:
- Toyota Fortuner
- Skoda Kodiaq
- Jeep Meridian
- MG Majestor
- Volkswagen Tayron
