Autocar India has put up their exclusive image galley of the upcoming Tata Hexa crossover, which reveals a lot of new features and appointments, both on the outside and inside. Showcased at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the Hexa is essentially a re-bodied Aria, which “unveils a new direction to the design language of future Tata SUVs”. The Hexa is expected to be launched in India during the festive season, or at the 2016 Auto Expo.

The Hexa measures 4764 mm long, 1895 mm wide, 1780 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2850 mm. It retains the Aria’s silhouette, while changes to the bodywork include a completely revamped, smarter front fascia, bolder side cladding, new wheel arch trim, significant alterations to the glasshouse, a new tail gate, re-styled tail lamps and fresh, 19-inch, alloy wheels. The rear 3/4th angle brings the heavily reworked backside to focus. The aforementioned, new tail gate hosts a thick brushed aluminium strip over the registration pate recess, while the new bumper features a skid plate that houses the dual, chrome tipped exhaust finishers.

Gone are the Aria’s Christmas Tree” lamps, and replacing them are conventionally styled, horizontally aligned LED tail lamps.

Inside, the Aria’s boring dashboard has been spruced up considerably, with an all-new center console, leather upholstery, piano black and brushed golden inserts, along with Tata’s new multi-function steering wheel.

The new, touchscreen equipped, HARMAN infotainment system features a SD card reader, supports Aux-in/USB input, and allows smartphone/iPod connectivity. Apart from that, it also acts a command center for various vehicle functions and features like mood lighting, climate control etc. The screen doubles up to display the feed from the reversing camera.

The Hexa also features a watered down version of Land Rover’s acclaimed Terrain Response system. A choice of four driving modes are on offer – Comfort, Auto Dynamic and Rough Road – which can be accessed via a rotary knob in the center console. It basically dopes the car’s central nervous system (ECU), which softens or tautens the engine and suspension characteristics, depending on what mode you choose, or what type of terrain you’re traversing.

The four modes are reflected colorfully on the new, double barrel instrument cluster’s central LCD display, which also features a gear position indicator, trip computer, a digital clock, fuel gauge and a distance to empty readout.

The plush, leather seats bear distinctive Land Rover cues and feature  contrast blue stitching, but they look large and cosseting. However, the driver’s throne lacks electrical adjust-ability.

The second row has two, individual captain’s chairs, replete with armrests and dedicated AC vents in the B-pillars as well as in the middle.

Boot space shouldn’t differ much from the Aria’s which could swallow 342 litres, and more with the third row folded.

The Hexa crossover will feature the same 2.2-liter VARICOR engine from the updated Safari Storme, but will be tuned to produce 154.21 hp and 400 Nm of maximum torque, with a shift-on-the-fly 4WD system to be offered as an option. Transmission options will include the obvious 5-speed manual and an all-new 6-speed automatic, which has been developed by GMPT (General Motors Powertrain).

Other features on offer include as many as six air-bags, ABS, ESP, auto headlights and auto wiper functionality.
