Here’s some good news. Supporting the Government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, Honda will locally assemble the CBR 650F at their plant in the country. Sounds great you might say, until you read further. It will be launched at a starting price of around Rs 8 lakh. Although many expected the price to be way lesser than that, localisation levels on the motorcycle would only be around 5% initially, as it would be brought down to India as a completely knocked down unit. Prices may or may not go down post that, although Honda will increase the localisation in a phased manner.
Talking to reporters, Keita Muramatsu-President & CEO,Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said, “We are planning to introduce the CBR650F sometime in July. It will be completely assembled in our plant. It is part of the Make in India concept promoted by the government.” He also revealed that the decision to enter the 650cc segment is a part of the plan to introduce 15 new models this year, which include seven brand new models with all new engines and chassis. When asked about the price the CBR 650F would be launched at, he said it would be around the Rs Eight lakh mark.
