Hero MotoCorp might end up taking over Ducati

Hero MotoCorp is surely on steroids these days. Recently, we reported in detail about the Indian motorcycle and scooter manufacturer’s newly formed association with Erik Buell racing. Now, it is being said that the popular 2 wheeler manufacturer is in talks with several banks on raising funds. Now, you will ask why does the manufacturer need some vitamin M? Hold your breath folks, for the news of Hero thinking of acquiring the Italian motorcycle maker Ducati is surely surprising for everyone.

Lots of bankers have been coming to us over Ducati,” Pawan Kant Munjal, MD, Hero MotoCorp, said in an interview yesterday. It may be noted that private equity firm Investindustrial Holdings SpA, wants to sell Ducati, and expects €1 billion ($1.32 billion) or three times its initial investment. “It is an excellent fit — Ducati is a big brand and has a lot of technology; Hero is looking to be a serious global player,” said Deepesh Rathore, managing director of IHS Automotive in India.
