We so knew that something like this was about to happen. While this news might bring a little smile to those who have always been loyal to petrol cars, this should be a cause of worry for many others. It may be noted that thanks to petrol getting even more expensive, Indian car market has started seeing increased favor for diesel cars and the news here is that diesel, which is considerably cheaper than petrol, might soon witness a price hike.
Oil Secretary of India recently commented that the prices of diesel will be raised by INR 10/litre over the next 10 months. This means that diesel will become dearer by about 20% before the end of next year.
It will be interesting to see how auto makers will react in case diesel becomes considerably more expensive in the country. Well, suddenly the future of diesel cars isn’t looking all that bright.

That’s governments way of saying to the common man – I do you both ways! You won’t buy a petrol cause it costs Rs.75/ltr and cars aren’t that fuel efficient. You can’t buy diesel cause the cars are way too expensive.
I keep saying this again and again on pretty much all forums. There is no end to this debate. We need to demand good public transport instead! There are tons and tons of crores being looted in the name of stupid, old, ill planned and sometimes downright dangerous options like BRTS, Metro, State Road Transport etc etc. Nothing gets delivered and if something really gets implemented, its poor & inefficient/insufficient.
I’m currently in Sweden. And in a country that has population of 90lakhs only, I’m yet to find the need for renting a car to reach any goddamn place that is inhabited. Such is the public transport network!

These id**s doesn’t have any sense. They are all shareholders of oil companies.
Second hand diesel car market.
This move would not resolve the issue of diesel subsidy.
This would only trigger the second hand car market, may to some extent increse the sale of petrol fueled cars. Increase the load on mini & maxi buses plying in rural and semi urban areas.
