We reported in detail when the second edition of the ASEAN-India Car Rally 2012 was flagged off.
The popular car rally, organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Mahindra Adventures were the vehicle sponsors. The first ASEAN Car Rally was held in 2004 and in its latest edition, as many as 28 Mahindra and Mahindra XUV 500 vehicles traveled through India and 8 ASEAN countries. The cars traveled for 22 days and logged around 8,000 kms in total.
The rally consisted of 124 participants from 11 different countries and was flagged off from Jakarta, Indonesia on November 26th. The participants reached New Delhi on December 29th and the journey concluded in a ceremony consisting of Prime Minister of India and Heads of State of 10 ASEAN countries.
According to Vivek Nayer, Chief Marketing Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. “We are happy to successfully conclude the ASEAN-India Car Rally 2012. The XUV500, which was conceived and built as a Global SUV, was chosen as the exclusive vehicle partner for the rally. The XUV500 proved its might yet again, having successfully completed the rally across international borders. The tough and rugged Mahindra DNA ensured that all 28 vehicles came through with flying colours in the 8,000 km long rally that traversed gruelling conditions across the ASEAN countries”.
Mr. Nayer further added, “The ASEAN rally is in sync with Mahindra Adventure’s proposition of ‘Accepting No Limits.’ Mahindra SUVs are noted for proving themselves in the toughest rallying conditions with notable examples being the podium finish for Dakshin Dare, Mughal Rally, Desert Storm and Raid de Himalaya in India and the gruelling Rally dos Sertoes in Brazil. This rally was no exception.”
