There have been many rumors that the Toyota Etios and Liva diesel would be pumped by a 76 bhp engine. However, these rumors have now proven to be false as various sources claim that the Etios and Liva diesel would be powered by a 68 bhp diesel engine. The bookings for the diesel variants of both the cars have already begun and they can be booked with a down-payment of Rs 50,000.
The diesel engine has been borrowed from the Toyota Corolla Altis however; the variable geomtric turbocharger will be missing in the Etios and Liva. ARAI claims that the engine can give a fuel efficiency figure of about 22 kmpl. However, there is no clue as to why Toyota chose to keep the cars under powered as compared to other cars of its segment.
