2022 KTM RC Series Leaked Ahead Of Launch!

Expect KTM to turn the heat up in the faired motorcycle segment in the coming few months as the Austrian bikemaker is readying to launch a slew of updated motorcycles. In the past few months, we have come across countless spy shots of the KTM RC series including all the three motorcycles in the RC range – the RC 125, RC 200 and RC 390. But what we have today with us is a lot more substantial as KTM accidentally made the new web pages with these updated motorcycles live on its official website. The company managed to soon take it down but not before someone managed to snap some screenshots of the same!

Similarities between the RCs

The leaked images fall in line with the spied test mules but now that the motorcycles can be seen without camouflage, it is considerably easier to make out the changes. Aesthetically speaking, all the three motorcycles bear the same visual changes and they look like they belong to a nice, happy family with similar fascia.

The previous RCs were adored for their sharp styling that looked rather purposeful, given their track-focused intent but this new breed of RCs look a lot mature and bulkier. Upfront, the fairing has grown substantially in size and now feature a new hexagonal unit inspired by the Duke series. Moreover, the mirror mounted indicators have made way for front fairing mounted ones that look tastefully done. The windscreen too appears to be larger than the one found on the current-gen RCs.

Other major transition is the rear sub-frame that will now be a bolt-on unit, similar to what we find on the current-gen Duke 390. It will make accidental repairs easier and cheaper (should it bend or break in a crash). KTM seems to have improved the padding and texture of the seats but the pillion seat still appears to be as sporty as ever! The riding ergonomics, on the other hand, have now become slightly more relaxed. It might rob the RCs of their razor-sharp handling but their super-aggressive riding stance has been a cause of complaint about many riders, the reason why KTM seems to have developed a new breed of RCs that can undertake long highway rides without punishing the rider. The braking setup looks upgraded too in all the motorcycles and now features more perforated disc brakes.

KTM RC 125

From the leaked images, it appears that KTM will be offering the RC 125 in two shades: White/Orange and Black/Orange. The side-swept exhaust is missing and this one makes do with an underbelly unit. It is being assumed that the new-gen RC 125 will continue to get powered by the same DOHC, 4 valve, liquid-cooled and a fuel-injected unit which gives the bike a power output of 14.5 PS at 9,250 rpm and a twisting force of 12 Nm at 8,000 rpm. This power goes to the rear wheel via a six-speed transmission.

KTM RC 200

The RC 200 seems to have retained its White/Orange paintjob but the graphics are all-new. Spy shots that surfaced previously also showcased the RC 200 in KTM’s signature orange shade. While the RC 390 will most likely boast of LED illumination upfront, the RC 200 will carry forward the same halogen setup, albeit, in new clothing.

KTM RC 390

The KTM RC 390 seen here looks more proportionate than the other two motorcycles, thanks to its new shade of Blue/Orange. KTM has thoroughly updated the RC 390 with all the changes mentioned above and then some more! The updated RC 390 will boast of adjustable front suspension with both compression and rebound damping for the front fork.

Next up is a large display that’s almost certain to be a TFT unit like that on the 390 Duke. The new wheels are wrapped in Continental ContiRoad sport touring tyres – the same as seen on the international spec 890 Duke. It’s also quite likely that the new RC will feature a basic bi-directional quickshifter, like the current-gen 390 Adventure and 390 Duke.
