2017 Honda City likely to be offered with HR-V’s 1.8Litre FlexOne engine

2017 Honda City is reported to be getting a bigger flex-fuel power plant under its hood for the Brazilian market. The 1.8 Litre FlexOne engine will be borrowed from its SUV cousin – the Honda HR-V. For those who don’t know, A flex-fuel vehicle is equipped with an internal combustion engine that is designed to run on more than one fuel. Usually, gasoline blended with either ethanol or methanol fuel is the fuel source of power and both fuels are stored in the same common tank. The 1.8L FlexOne engine powered 2017 Honda City will roll out from October 2016.

The Honda HR-V SUV uses a 1.8l 16V SOHC i-VTEC FlexOne engine under its hood and the same will be fitted inside the 2017 Honda City. The engine makes power with the help of petrol as well as Ethanol. The engine, when fuelled up with gasoline makes 138bhp of power at 6,500rpm and a max torque of 169Nm at 4,800rpm; when topped up with Ethanol the engine delivers 137bhp at 6,300rpm and 170Nm at 5,000rpm. The engine is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox or CVT.

Currently, the 2016 Honda City that retails in Brazil draws power from a 1.5 Litre 16V SOHC i-VTEC FlexOne engine that produces maximum power 113bhp at 6,000rpm and 114bhp at 6,000rpm when filled with petrol and Ethanol respectively. The engine makes a peak torque of 150 Nm at 4,800rpm and the power is sent to the wheels by a 5-speed manual gearbox; also, the CVT variants get paddle shifters. With the new 1.8L engine the 2017 Honda City will get a bump in power, torque and performance. While all of that is impressive, to get the goodness home buyers will have to pay a sizeable extra amount.
