2016 BMW M8 to take the supercars head on

The BMW M6 is the sportiest car you can buy from Bavarian manufacturer. While there are many out there who worship the M6, BMW can surely do with coming up with a more powerful supercar. Don’t get us wrong for we do realize that the M6 can manage to keep up with most supercars that we have on our roads but as they say, more power is never enough. Right?

It seems like the boffins at BMW echo our belief and are preparing to come up with a more hardcore performance car that will be sold with the M8 moniker. The styling of the BMW M8 coupe will sport some retro design cues and the car will be powered with a state-of-the-art petrol engine. To keep the weight under check, the car’s structure and body will be made of lightweight materials (read: carbon fiber, aluminum, magnesium and titanium!). BMW has set 2760-pound as the target weight for the M8.

The new BMW M8 will be underpinned by the i8’s platform. For those who aren’t exactly clued in on the future cars from BMW, the i8 is a plug-in hybrid that uses carbon fibre for its body shell and some 5-series components.

Powering the M8 will be a thoroughly updated version of the M5’s direct-injected 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo motor. The M8 will come with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and it would be safe to assume that the car would have at least 650 horsepower at its disposal.

The M8, in all probability, would be sportier than the SLS AMG and Porsche 911 Turbo.

The BMW M8 could make its public debut in 2016 and would go on sale for a price of $330,000.
