Volkswagen Phaeton makes quite a sense for those who have arrived in life but do not wish to shout about it. Unfortunately for VW, such buyers are conspicuous by their absence in India. It is so bad that we recently learned that VW have ‘gifted’ a car to some superstar’s wife to do away with excess inventory. Thankfully for the German car maker, the conditions aren’t so negative in other markets and the Phaeton is the top selling luxury car in China.
Recently, news has emerged that Volkswagen is busy working on the development of the next generation Phaeton which should debut sometime in 2015. Things are looking quite good as the new Phaeton will be seen sharing the platform with the Audi A8. This simply means that the Phaeton too will be based on the Modular Longitudinal(ML) platform. The Phaeton range should continue being offered with a petrol and diesel powerhouse but safely expect a smaller gasoline motor with a supercharger. It is also being said that Cylinder deactivation technology will debut in the Phaeton with the next gen car.
