If you were planning to snap up a quarter litre naked bike in India in the near future, we’ve got some disheartening news for you. Kawasaki and Hyosung has postponed the launches for their Z250 and GD250N motorcycles respectively.

According to a report in Autocar India, the Hyosung GD 250N is currently undergoing homologation for Indian markets, while the Kawasaki Z250 is being tested by the company to suit Indian conditions, after which it will also be sent to ARAI for homologation. So it seems like the Hyosung GD 250N will make its way to showrooms before the Kawasaki does so.

Both the motorcycles are expected to be the respective companies’ cheapest – nay, least expensive – offerings in the Indian market to date, and are built as such. While previous 250cc Hyosung offerings have all sported twin-cylinder engines, the GD250N makes do with a liquid cooled single cylinder 250cc engine producing 28PS of peak power. It is also one of the most appealing designs we have seen from Hyosung in India yet, bearing a resemblance to the original Comet 250 in its naked stance. The underbelly exhaust and while alloys contrast beautifully with the white exposed diamond frame and grey/silver body panels.

It is powered by a liquid-cooled fuel-injected 250cc parallel twin producing around 33PS, same as the phased out Ninja 250R. Like all quarter liter Kawasakis, it also doesn’t have upside-down forks, but the rest of the bike is as spectacular as its bigger siblings.
Both the motorcycles will be assembled in India, with the CKD kit for the Hyosung coming in from South Korea while the Kawasaki will come from Thailand. Expect prices to be somewhere above the INR 2 lakh mark.
